The simple way to enable Wordpress post by email on a self hosted website (yahoo, gmail, exchange, pop, imap)

ISSUE: I want to be able to email my posts into an email address and have them post automatically to my Wordpress site.

There are a tons of sites that talk about this subject and many different ways on how to do it, there are actually some plugins that can set this up for you, but I wanted to simplify this process since many of the users that use wordpress don't know how or want to edit the code.

SOLUTION:  First we need to understand how this actually works.

When you send a post by email what happens is that it goes into the inbox of that address wordpress will then run a job to pull those emails into the wordpress site.

When I first set this up my biggest misconception was that I was actually emailing the wordpress site directly and that is completely incorrect.

What actually happens is that Wordpress connects to the mailbox and pulls the messages into your website as a POST

Remote host said: 554 5.1.0 Sender denied

If you get the following when sending a message to someone using exchange 2007 or higher.

Remote host said: 554 5.1.0 Sender denied

Seems like a server side error but actually now outlook or OWA on the application can cause this issue. If a user adds the email address or domain to the block list it will come back with Sender Denied.

Exchange hosting with intermedia.net

I currently host several exchange mailbox accounts with Intermedia.net,

POSITIVES: Their Exchange service is great they provide an outlook setup tool that can be branded with your own company logo, you can perform a remote wipe. They have a great billing template for your clients. Their customer services is great.

- I have received several credits for the following issues:
- A mailbox was deleted by mistake ($150) credit
- Incorrect billing issues ($60) Sharepoint site was upgraded to 10 GB in error

NEGATIVES: The way they bill their products can become very confusing as they bill 2 months behind so sometimes your clients payments and their charges do not match up and can cause a huge issue if you are not keeping track of your billing.

- Sharepoint sites features are very limited
- The mail enabling of SharePoint folders is confusing and very ineffective as the settings are limmited
