Directorypress Details page display / adding map location

One of the biggest issues I had with the Directorypress template is editing the details page.

I wanted the map location (map_location) to display on the details page.
I searched for sometime for an answer on the best way to get this done and finally came across this http://www.premiumpress.com/forums/topic/address-for-map-location-on-add-listing-form In the directory press forums.

The page that you need to edit is called _single.php
(_single.php)  found under Admin > appearance > 

Then you can add the following code to display any field or custom field: 

<?php echo get_post_meta($post->ID, "map_location", true); ?> 

you can replace "map_location" with any other field you would like to display, I actually added this code above the listing and also next to the Google map to display the address. To see how this looks on my directory press details page visit: http://georgiahealthcareprofessionals.com

I also went a little further and used the code from a Google gadget that get's directions and also added that to my _single.php page. 

 

 

Wordpress Google Analytics Visits plugin

I installed this plugin on my directory website you can see the actual plugin in action on the right hand side of this website http://gerogiahealthcareprofessionals.com the plugin id very simple to use doesn't have many options but display the visitors data in a nice and clear format.

The only issue I had with the plugin is that it request to add the website's analytic Personal ID witch is different from the Tracking ID, once I was able to find that located in my analytic settings under the account settings for the website profile I was installing it for everything worked great! I give this plugin 5 stars as it does work exactly as it should to download a copy of the plugin please visit the following page:

Wordpress Plugin Add Link to Facebook

In my directory website http://georgiahealthcareprofessionals.com I added the following plugin "Add Link to Facebook" and it works great, it connects to the Facebook API and can post to the wall it also integrates any comments/posts that are made on facebook back to your site, you can download a copy of the plugin from the following website: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/add-link-to-facebook/

The two issue that I did find is that when doing a bulk import of data into my directory press website the plugin 

causes the import to fail with a 404 error, I recommend the disabling the plugin prior to any large import of data. 

The only other issue is that sometimes the API transaction fails however you are notified in the admin panel and an clear the error simply by updating the post/comment that was made using the wordpress admin panel

Some tips and tricks! 

- when a friend asks you for a link create a short link using adf.ly and send him that link instead

- add the links to your blog

- when you post a link on social media websites like facebook, Twitter use the short links to make money!

Using Artisteer to create a wordpress/dotnetnuke website template

I can't stress enough how Awesome this application is! You are able to simple create your own custom templates very simple no codding needed.

I have created many Dotnetnuke 5.0 & 6.0 and Wordpress templates with it and has always worked as it should, to get a trial version of the application you can visit their site at http://www.artisteer.com/

I highly recommend anyone that's interested in creating their own website to give it a try as the possibilities with this application are endless!

Using Webcontent Extractor Trial version

I download the Webcontent Extractor application from:

The company provides a free-trial version of Web content extractor that allows you to extract upto 150 items at a time, for big projects there is a work around, after running the application you can extract the items into a spreadsheet clear the list and have it continue running.

When exporting items it is also possible to execute the items to the same spread sheet and append them to the list with out having to create a new one.

Her is the Video I used that shows how to extract information using the Web Content Extractor  wizard

Exchange hosting with intermedia.net

I currently host several exchange mailbox accounts with Intermedia.net,

POSITIVES: Their Exchange service is great they provide an outlook setup tool that can be branded with your own company logo, you can perform a remote wipe. They have a great billing template for your clients. Their customer services is great. 

- I have received several credits for the following issues:

- A mailbox was deleted by mistake ($150) credit 

- Incorrect billing issues ($60) Sharepoint site was upgraded to 10 GB in error

NEGATIVES: The way they bill their products can become very confusing as they bill 2 months behind so sometimes your clients payments and their charges do not match up and can cause a huge issue if you are not keeping track of your billing. 

- Sharepoint sites features are very limited 

- The mail enabling of SharePoint folders is confusing and very ineffective as the settings are limmited

I had to do this recently for one of my clients so i figured I would share it.

Creating a simple Paypal button on your website that allows the buyer or payee to enter their own amount

1. Login to your Paypal account
2. Click merchant services
3. Create a new button
4. The type of button is "Donations"
5. Click Save
6. Click the email tab
7. copy the link
8. Inserted as a link on your site

TIP: you can also create/upload your own image and add the link to your image


Negatives: their is no way to change some of the text that says donations, into something else for example invoice or payment

Directorypress / Godaddy import time out issue fixed

THE ISSUE: When I tried importing CSV file into to my Online Directorypress website hosted by godaddy.com 

I noticed that if the file has over 100 listings the server would time out with the following error message:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

THE SOLUTION:  You can upload the file that you are trying to import using a ftp service example windows explorer, I recommend FlashFxp the give you a 15 Trial so it should be worth trying it. 

Once you are connected to your website via FTP browse to the following folder ( /wp-content/themes/directorypress/thumbs/ ) and import the sheet there now when you go back to your import page in Directorypress you will see the CSV file that you imported next to the import dropdown box
